Cashmere's Washing Instructions |
|
The key to caring for your cashmere is as follows: Be gentle and be consistent. First, use a good quality hair shampoo and warm water to wash your project. You may also wash your yarn prior to knitting if you so desire. Rinse in the same water temperature. You can use a good quality hair conditioner in the rinse water, but rinse it well before drying. You can use cold water as well for both the wash and rinse water, but your first washing should be in warmer water to remove any spinning oils or soil accumulated during handling. For a big, bulky project, you can remove your project from the water and place it in a colander and gently press the extra water out. Roll the project in a towel and press out remaining water. Smooth and then block if necessary and let air dry. Remember cashmere is a delicacy to moths and they will invite their friends to the feast. Protect your project with herbal moth repellents or store in a secure environment. Lace weight yarn is delicate and proper care should be taken with it. Socks should have a reinforcing
yarn knit into the heels and toes or woven in after knitting. |
