At the 8th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Nationals in Reading,
PA this past weekend, the Chris Rini Racing Team was prepared
to take their second win of the season in the Pro Street
class. The 2007 Dodge Stratus powered by a 747ci Charlie
Buck motor qualified in the number 2 position on Friday
night with a 6.22 @ 227mph, setting the bar high enough
to send the other drivers back to their trailers to search
for some more power.
With a small engine complication on Saturday, Rini
was unable to make any further qualifying attempts.
Luckily with such a great first qualifying pass on Friday
night, no more passes were necessary to keep Chris in
the number 2 spot.
With threatening weather on the way, Sunday eliminations
got underway ahead of schedule. Chris was paired with
John Sullivan in the first round. Sullivan's supercharged
Stratus was no match for Chris's nitrous Hemi power.
Rini laid down a 6.21 at a record setting 230mph. With
that number, Chris's ATI SuperGlide 4 equipped Stratus
now holds the record for the fastest pass ever made
with a powerglide in the NMCA.
As Chris went into the second round he had a bye run.
Unfortunately while taking his run the car had a small
engine fire at the top end of the race track. Thankfully
Chris was not injured, but the car was not as fortunate.
Chris and crew worked as hard as they could during a
much needed rain delay, but were unable to get the car
back to racing condition and were eliminated from competition.
Congratulations to Chris Rini & crew on achieving
another record in 2010.
